NEW DELHI – In a significant move to accelerate the digitization of India’s healthcare ecosystem, the National Health Authority (NHA) and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to roll out e-Sushrut@Clinic. The new platform is a simplified, cloud-based Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) designed specifically to empower small and medium-sized healthcare providers, including private clinics and sub-centers.
The signing of the MoU, which took place yesterday, was attended by Union Health Secretary Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava, who hailed the initiative as a major step forward for the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). Launched in September 2021 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, ABDM aims to create an integrated digital health infrastructure and bridge the existing gaps among healthcare stakeholders.
“The demand for an affordable, government-backed HMIS has been persistent for a long time,” said Smt. Srivastava. “With C-DAC’s collaboration, we expect e-Sushrut@Clinic to empower and cater to tens of thousands of doctors and facility managers nationwide, improving efficiency, data security, and patient satisfaction.” She further emphasized that the platform’s ABDM-enabled nature will be instrumental in the mission’s adoption and in creating a truly interoperable digital health ecosystem.
e-Sushrut@Clinic is a lighter version of C-DAC’s successful e-Sushrut HMIS software, which is currently in use at 17 AIIMS hospitals and over 4,000 other health facilities across the country. The new application is tailored for outpatient management, pharmacy, and nursing modules, providing essential functionalities at a low per-user cost. This will allow small clinics to digitize patient records, prescriptions, and billing with minimal technical overhead.
According to Shri Vivek Khaneja, Executive Director of C-DAC, Noida, the partnership with NHA is a crucial step towards bringing digital healthcare to the entire country. “By simplifying digital adoption for healthcare providers, it will help speed up the creation of a transparent and interconnected digital health ecosystem,” he stated, “ultimately providing faster, more reliable care to patients everywhere.”
The need for this new software was identified through feedback received during the rollout of ABDM microsites, where there was a clear demand for a trustworthy, government-backed digital solution. The official support from NHA and the proven credibility of C-DAC’s systems, already used by major public hospitals, addresses a critical need for a secure and reliable HMIS in the private sector.
The onboarding process for e-Sushrut@Clinic has been designed for simplicity. Healthcare providers can register on the platform through a webpage on their laptop or mobile, using their Health Facility Registry (HFR) and Health Professionals Registry (HPR) credentials. For those not yet registered, the platform offers an integrated registration process.
In addition to basic functionalities, e-Sushrut@Clinic will offer several utilities and features of ABDM, including access to the AIIMS Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) service for hypertension and diabetes, which is being provided free of charge for all ABDM-integrated software. This CDSS service is designed to help doctors make better diagnoses and treatment decisions, further improving patient care.
The initiative is a collaborative effort to bridge the digital divide in the healthcare sector, ensuring that even the smallest clinics can participate in India’s digital health revolution.
