Nalhar, August 14, 2025 – Resident doctors at Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College (SHKM GMC) in Nalhar have initiated a pen-down strike in protest of a recent physical assault on a fellow doctor. The strike, which began on August 13, follows an incident where a doctor in the pediatrics department was allegedly attacked by a patient’s attendant and several other individuals.
The assault, which took place on August 11, has been attributed by the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) to a lack of adequate security. The RDA has stated that no security guards or ward boys were on duty at the time of the attack.
In response, the doctors have issued a list of demands, including:
- Immediate and strict action against the assailants.
- The deployment of trained security personnel in all sensitive areas of the hospital, 24 hours a day.
- Restoration of basic amenities within the hospital and college premises, which they claim contribute to a hostile working environment.
The doctors have warned that if their demands are not met, they will escalate their protest by ceasing all emergency services starting today, August 14. The United Doctors Front (UDF) Association has voiced its support, with Chairperson Dr. Lakshya Mittal emphasizing that “violence against doctors is unacceptable.”
An investigation is currently underway by the police, but there has been no official statement from the college administration regarding the doctors’ demands or the strike.
