Kohima, Nagaland — January 26, 2025
In a significant step towards improving healthcare services for the underserved population of Nagaland, the Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan, inaugurated the Chief Minister’s Mobile Operation Theatre (CMMOT) at the Civil Secretariat on Sunday. The ceremony took place as part of the 76th Republic Day celebrations and was attended by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, along with a host of senior officials.
The Chief Minister’s Mobile Operation Theatre is an innovative healthcare initiative designed to bring advanced surgical and medical services directly to rural and remote regions of Nagaland. With the aim of reducing healthcare disparities, the mobile unit is equipped with cutting-edge keyhole surgery capabilities, offering essential treatments that were previously inaccessible to many.
The mobile facility houses a fully equipped surgical unit, portable diagnostic tools such as ultrasound, X-ray, endoscopy, and blood testing equipment, and instruments for minimally invasive surgeries. These resources are designed to cater to a wide range of medical needs, from basic diagnostics to life-saving interventions.
A dedicated team from Kohima’s Hospital, led by Managing Director Dr. Keneilhoulie Medom, will be at the helm of the operation. The medical team will be supported by doctors from both government and private healthcare institutions, ensuring high-quality care is delivered to those in need, even in the most remote areas.
The mobile theatre is not just about medical treatment — it represents a transformative shift in how healthcare can be provided. This initiative serves as a model for innovative healthcare delivery, bridging the divide between urban hospitals and rural communities. Its focus on equity aims to ensure that the people of Nagaland, regardless of where they live, can access critical and life-saving medical services.
