Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh:
A senior gynaecologist from Rajgarh district, Dr. Akanksha Singh, has been suspended after posting a WhatsApp status that reportedly took a veiled dig at local BJP MLA Amar Singh Yadav. The incident has sparked debate within the medical and political communities regarding the conduct of government officials on social media.

Background of the Incident

Dr. Singh, who had served at the District Hospital Rajgarh for several years, was recently transferred to Neemuch. On May 27, shortly after joining her new post, she published a WhatsApp status that appeared to indirectly criticize the BJP legislator. The status read:

“Remember, at your own expense and your desired place…Note: The respectable person who had written on the letterhead with great enthusiasm that I should be transferred, should pick up his application from the dustbin, it is still lying there.”

The message quickly circulated on social media and was brought to the attention of MLA Amar Singh Yadav. Viewing the post as inappropriate, the MLA lodged a formal complaint with the Health Commissioner.

Swift Disciplinary Action

Reacting to the complaint, the Health Department suspended Dr. Singh under Rule 3 of the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1966. The official order cited behavior contrary to the duties expected of government servants. Following her suspension, Dr. Singh has been reassigned to Khargone as her new headquarters.

According to reports, Dr. Singh had arranged her transfer to Neemuch, allegedly at her own expense. However, her social media post following the transfer was deemed problematic by authorities.

Political Context

Prior to this episode, MLA Amar Singh Yadav had raised concerns with the Chief Minister and Health Commissioner regarding alleged irregularities in Dr. Singh’s duties during her tenure at Rajgarh District Hospital. After the suspension, Yadav stated:

“I will not tolerate any incidents in the area that could affect the lives of common citizens.”

Broader Implications

This incident highlights the increasing scrutiny of government employees’ conduct on social media platforms. It also underscores the tension between freedom of expression and the expectations of neutrality and decorum from public servants.
