Mizoram has achieved the distinction of being the first Indian state to inaugurate an ABDM (Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission) Microsite in its capital city, Aizawl. This initiative is part of the 100 Microsites project introduced by the National Health Authority (NHA), with the goal of expediting the nationwide implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

As a part of this endeavor, all medical establishments, including private clinics, small hospitals, and laboratories within the region, will incorporate ABDM technology, thereby offering patients access to digital healthcare services.

The ABDM’s 100 Microsite project holds significant importance as it aims to connect a substantial number of small and medium-scale healthcare providers from the private sector to the digital healthcare landscape. The concept of Microsites was conceived to accelerate the digitization efforts in healthcare across the nation. The dedicated efforts of the Mizoram team have resulted in Aizawl becoming the pioneer ABDM Microsite in India. The CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA) underscored the project’s importance, expressing hope for similar enthusiastic participation from teams in other states.

During the launch event of the Microsite in Aizawl on August 23, 2023, Betsy Zothanpari Sailo, Additional Secretary of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) in Mizoram, emphasized the belief that the digitization of healthcare services can play a pivotal role in achieving the objective of universal health coverage. She highlighted that by having digital services integrated into healthcare facilities and ensuring secure access to digital health records, patients stand to gain the most. The Mizoram teams dedicatedly studied the ABDM enablement process and selected an implementation partner to set up the inaugural Microsite in Aizawl. They are now prepared to initiate the implementation process with a mission-oriented approach, ensuring that the Aizawl Microsite effectively fulfills its role as the first ABDM Microsite in the nation.

The ABDM Microsites have been designed to cover specific geographical areas, aiming for targeted and concentrated efforts to enroll small and medium-sized private healthcare providers. The execution of these Microsites primarily falls under the responsibility of the State Mission Directors of ABDM. The National Health Authority (NHA) provides financial support and overall guidance for the implementation.

As part of this initiative, a coordinating agency will deploy a field team to engage with healthcare providers in the designated regions. This team’s responsibilities include raising awareness about the benefits of ABDM, assisting healthcare service providers in joining ABDM’s central registries, and promoting the adoption of digital solutions for routine clinical documentation using ABDM-enabled platforms.

Patients will have the capability to connect the health records generated at these facilities with their Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs). They can access and share this information through Personal Health Record (PHR) applications supported by ABDM on their mobile devices. This integration aims to enhance patient access and facilitate the management of health information in a digital format.

Apart from Mizoram, several other states such as Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh have also made significant progress in the implementation of ABDM Microsites. It’s anticipated that more of these Microsites will be introduced in the coming weeks, indicating a broader expansion of this initiative across different states.
