New Delhi, India: More than 5.46 crore children and 1.32 crore pregnant women have been vaccinated across all phases of Mission Indradhanush, according to a statement made by the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Smt. Anupriya Patel, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha yesterday.

Mission Indradhanush, a flagship initiative under the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP), aims to improve vaccination coverage in areas with low immunization rates. The programme focuses on vaccinating children who have either been left out or have dropped out of the routine immunization schedule, along with pregnant women.

The programme administers 11 types of vaccines covered under the UIP, targeting diseases such as diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles, and hepatitis B, among others.

Since its inception, Mission Indradhanush has significantly bolstered the vaccine coverage under the National Universal Immunization Programme. By focusing on underserved regions, the initiative has contributed to closing gaps in the country’s immunization framework, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive life-saving vaccines.

Smt. Patel’s announcement highlights the government’s commitment to reducing vaccine-preventable diseases through sustained efforts and targeted interventions. Mission Indradhanush continues to play a crucial role in achieving India’s goal of universal immunization and enhancing public health outcomes.

This milestone underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between healthcare workers, government agencies, and community stakeholders in reaching the unreached and protecting the nation’s future generations.
