During a recent global conclave, an official from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) announced plans to introduce a draft aimed at ensuring the implementation of Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) in the country’s public health system. Dr. A Raghu, Deputy Director General (Ayush) at the Directorate General of Health Services, emphasized the need for establishing public health standards within the Ayush system, focusing on infrastructure, essential drugs, and manpower availability.

Raghu disclosed that the final draft, now completed, will soon be shared with states for their feedback and comments. He highlighted the intent to encourage states to adopt IPHS within a year, acknowledging the substantial infrastructural, clinical governance, and quality assurance improvements required to meet IPHS standards.

Furthermore, Raghu revealed plans for integrated Ayush departments in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) nationwide, foreseeing enhanced collaborative research opportunities from these departments. The Ministry of Ayush has sanctioned 12,500 Ayush health and wellness centers, over 8,000 of which are already operational. These centers aim to offer holistic care, integrating herbal gardens, yoga instruction, and community assessments.

Additionally, Raghu mentioned the Ministry’s development of an Ayush grid, a comprehensive digital platform designed to streamline engagement across various facets of Ayush, including human resources, research, medicinal plants, service delivery, and patient registration. This digital platform is set to link with all states and union territories (UTs), facilitating seamless communication.
