New Delhi, June 21, 2025 — A new pan-India study has found that millennials are leading the way in yoga adoption, with 74% practising the ancient discipline regularly. The study, conducted by ICICI Lombard General Insurance, surveyed nearly 1,000 respondents across metro and non-metro cities, offering a snapshot of how Indians are integrating wellness into their daily lives.
According to the findings, yoga has transitioned from a niche activity to a mainstream wellness practice in India. Overall, 72% of respondents reported practising yoga regularly, with an additional 18% engaging occasionally. Generation X follows millennials closely, with 70% of Gen Xers incorporating yoga into their routines.
The report highlights that stress and burnout are driving this surge in yoga adoption. “As stress and burnout become the new epidemic, yoga is not just making a comeback—it’s becoming a daily essential. India’s timeless contribution to global health, yoga, offers a powerful, holistic path to living well,” said Sheena Kapoor, head of marketing, corporate communications, and CSR at ICICI Lombard.
Despite high awareness of yoga’s benefits—66% of respondents recognize its ability to reduce stress and anxiety—only 52% have personally experienced these effects, indicating a gap between awareness and lived experience. Alongside yoga, daily walks (69%) and maintaining a balanced diet (68%) are among the top health practices embraced by Indians.
The study also notes a rising preference for online yoga formats, though nearly half of participants (45%) still prefer studio classes. Livestream sessions are favoured by 28%, while 13% use apps or pre-recorded videos.
