PIB Delhi, August 6, 2025 — In a major step towards curbing drug-related crimes and supporting those affected by substance abuse, the Government’s national narcotics helpline, ‘MANAS’ (Madak-Padarth Nished Asoochna Kendra), is witnessing robust public participation barely a year after its launch.

Introduced on July 18, 2024, MANAS Helpline—available via toll-free number 1933, web portal, email, and the UMANG app—provides a secure, bilingual platform for citizens to anonymously report drug trafficking, illicit cultivation and other drug offences. It also connects individuals and families to counselling and rehabilitation services, marking an integrated approach to tackle the drug menace.

With a focus on confidentiality and accessibility, the MANAS platform enables:

  • Anonymous reporting of drug trafficking, storage, manufacturing, or cultivation

  • Support for de-addiction and rehabilitation, with direct guidance and referral to the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment’s helpline

  • Awareness resources such as brochures, posters and videos for public outreach

  • Community engagement through online quizzes, poster-making, and reel-making contests in collaboration with MyGov as part of the Drug-Free Bharat campaign

According to data presented in the Rajya Sabha by Shri Nityanand Rai, Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, MANAS has made significant impact during its first year of operation, up to July 2025:

  • Over 70,000 citizens reached out for reporting drug offences or seeking rehabilitation help

  • 6,152 actionable tips escalated to enforcement agencies, triggering 36 NDPS Act cases

  • 7,100 calls related to de-addiction and rehabilitation support

  • 56,700 calls addressed various other issues

  • The public engagement arm recorded 2,013 participants in the Drug-Free India Quiz and received 835 posters and 522 reels in awareness contests via MyGov

The Government hopes these multi-channel efforts will not only support enforcement but also foster a nationwide culture of awareness, vigilance, and support in the drive to achieve a Drug-Free Bharat.
