Mumbai, June 24, 2025 – In a renewed effort to shield patients from exploitation, the Maharashtra government has reaffirmed its directive that all private hospitals and diagnostic laboratories must conduct dengue tests—specifically the NS1 ELISA and MAC ELISA tests—at a price capped at ₹600. This policy, originally introduced in 2016, is being strictly enforced to ensure affordability and transparency in the diagnosis of dengue fever.
Dr. Sandeep Sangale, Joint Director of Health Services, Maharashtra, emphasized the importance of this measure. “Since 2016, the state has ordered all private hospitals and labs to conduct these dengue tests within ₹600 to prevent any exploitation of patients,” he stated. “We have also instructed the labs to ensure that under no circumstances do they use rapid diagnostic kits for dengue samples and stick to ELISA tests only for confirming dengue,” he added, highlighting the government’s commitment to accurate and standardized testing.
The move comes as part of broader efforts by Indian authorities to ensure that healthcare remains accessible and equitable. Recently, Union Minister Dr. Chandra Shekhar also stressed the importance of digital and medical inclusivity, stating that “no Indian should be out of network digitally or medically as India advances from digital dependence to digital dominance.” This sentiment is echoed in Maharashtra’s latest health policy enforcement.
