Mumbai, Maharashtra – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the state administration to formulate a proposal for the establishment of a Public Health Infrastructure Corporation, aiming to revolutionize the state’s healthcare system. The initiative seeks to bring health department schemes and facilities online and develop modern infrastructure, ensuring quality healthcare access within a 5-kilometer radius for citizens.

During a review meeting of the public health department on Wednesday, attended by State Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif, Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar, Minister of State for Health Meghna Bordikar, and Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized the need for improved coordination between the Public Health Department and the Medical Education Department.

“We must modernize outdated systems and strive to provide comprehensive treatment at primary health centers,” stated Chief Minister Fadnavis. He advocated for the implementation of 13 key health services at primary health centers, similar to the model in Tamil Nadu. “The state government is committed to making healthcare services easily accessible and affordable for all citizens. We require immediate, comprehensive studies and information to implement these changes effectively,” he added.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of increasing the number of specialist doctors, establishing new health facilities, and modernizing district and sub-district hospitals. He also highlighted the need to improve drug supply and equipment management, integrate digital technology into healthcare, and expand the reach of Ayushman Bharat and state government insurance schemes.

Furthermore, he called for stringent measures to control treatment costs and expand special health centers, mobile health units, and telemedicine services in tribal and remote areas. He emphasized the importance of delivering health services in coordination with local administrations and enforcing regulations on private hospitals. Health education and awareness campaigns for citizens were also deemed crucial.

Chief Minister Fadnavis also directed the establishment of a dedicated data management system for the health department to improve efficiency and transparency.

The proposed Public Health Infrastructure Corporation aims to streamline processes, enhance infrastructure, and ultimately provide better healthcare services to the citizens of Maharashtra.
