In the past 24 hours, Kerala continues to grapple with the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in India, with 115 fresh cases recorded, contributing to the state’s total active caseload of 1,749.

The Centre’s data reveals that out of the 142 fresh cases reported in India on Monday, a substantial majority—115 cases—emerged from Kerala. State Health Minister Veena George is actively overseeing the situation in conjunction with health authorities, attributing the surge in active cases to heightened testing among individuals exhibiting fever and flu symptoms seeking medical attention.

Addressing the scenario during a meeting, Minister George assured that stringent restrictions would not be imposed, emphasizing that the situation is well managed and devoid of any cause for alarm. Alongside COVID-19 cases, various fever types, including dengue, leptospirosis, and viral fever, have been reported across the state.

To combat the escalating cases, authorities have advised the mandatory use of masks for all hospital visitors, emphasizing heightened caution in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi, areas reporting a higher caseload.

Authorities have been instructed to maintain preparedness in hospitals, ensuring all requisite facilities are in place to manage the situation effectively.

Simultaneously, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has called for a meeting on Wednesday, inviting state health counterparts to address the burgeoning COVID-19 scenario nationwide. The meeting aims to facilitate collaborative efforts and discussions among state health officials to collectively strategize and manage the evolving COVID-19 situation across India.
