Kasaragod, Kerala:
A 61-year-old retired doctor was arrested in Kasaragod, Kerala, on charges of allegedly molesting a minor girl under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The incident reportedly took place during a counselling session at the doctor’s residence in December 2023.
The accused, who previously served as secretary at the Kanhangad District Homoeopathy Hospital, was taken into custody by Hosdurg police on Monday. He was subsequently presented before the Hosdurg Judicial First Class Magistrate Court and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
According to the complaint, the 14-year-old girl visited the doctor’s house with her parents for counselling support. During her fourth visit, the doctor allegedly hugged and sexually assaulted her. The victim did not immediately disclose the incident but later revealed the details during a school counselling session earlier this year.
Following her disclosure, a case was initially registered by Chandera police and later transferred to Hosdurg police, as the alleged abuse occurred within their jurisdiction. The doctor now faces charges under the POCSO Act.
