Sodepur, North 24 Parganas – The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front organized a health camp named ‘Abhaya Clinic’ on Sunday in memory of their late colleague, a Post Graduate Trainee doctor who was brutally raped and murdered on August 9 of the previous year at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. The tragic incident, which sent shockwaves through the medical community, continues to fuel the fight for justice.
The initiative, which served over 110 patients, was not just a medical outreach program but also a symbolic act of remembrance. Each patient who visited the clinic was given a sapling to honor the victim’s love for plants and her unwavering dedication to serving people. A junior doctor involved in the initiative shared, “Our sister loved plants and was devoted to her profession. This is our way of keeping her memory alive.”
The grief-stricken parents of the victim also attended the event, expressing their deep sorrow and relentless pursuit of justice. “We used to celebrate her birthday at night when she returned from the hospital. Now, our only mission in life is to seek justice for our daughter,” they said.
However, the journey for justice has not been without obstacles. The Junior Doctors’ Front has alleged police harassment aimed at suppressing their movement. Despite these challenges, they remain resolute in their commitment to ensuring accountability and justice for their fallen colleague. “We will not stop until justice is served,” asserted a representative of the organization.
The Abhaya Clinic stands as a testament to the medical fraternity’s unity and resilience in the face of adversity. It serves as both a reminder of the tragic loss and a call to action for justice and systemic change.
