Jamshedpur, April 18: A Community Health Officer (CHO), Jyoti Kumari, is in critical condition after being viciously attacked with sharp-edged weapons by a group of unidentified individuals at her government quarters in Jamshedpur on Friday morning. The incident occurred at the Ayushman Arogya Mandir located in the Ruhidih area, under the jurisdiction of the MGM police station.
According to police reports, the attack took place around 9 a.m. A group of four to five assailants arrived at Ms. Kumari’s residence, which is situated within the health centre premises. They reportedly posed as individuals seeking medical attention and asked to see the CHO. When Ms. Kumari came out to meet them, they launched a sudden and violent assault, striking her multiple times with weapons including a spade and an axe.
Ms. Kumari collapsed at the scene, suffering severe bleeding. Her husband, who was inside the house at the time, heard her screams and rushed outside to find her grievously injured. He immediately sought help from other family members and rushed her to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital. Due to the critical nature of her injuries, she was subsequently transferred to the Tata Main Hospital, where officials state she is currently fighting for her life.
The attackers fled the scene immediately after the assault, leaving an axe behind. Police were alerted and arrived promptly to secure the area and initiate an investigation. Law enforcement teams are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations and interviewing potential eyewitnesses to identify the perpetrators. The motive behind the brutal attack remains unclear at this stage.
Jyoti Kumari has been serving as the CHO at the Ruhidih health centre for the past five years and resides there with her family.
The shocking incident has sparked considerable outrage among local residents and the healthcare community, with many demanding the swift identification and arrest of those responsible for the attack.
Senior officials, including DSP Vachandev Kumar of the Patamda Range and Jamshedpur Civil Surgeon Dr Sahir Pal, visited Tata Main Hospital later on Friday to inquire about Ms. Kumari’s condition and gather further details regarding the incident.
Police have assured that intensive efforts are underway to track down and apprehend the culprits involved in this heinous crime.
