The World Health Organization is delighted to announce the launch of its new tool designed for benchmarking ethics oversight in health-related research involving human participants. This tool has been collaboratively developed by WHO’s Regulatory System Strengthening, Regulation and Safety Unit, along with the Health Ethics & Governance Unit. Its primary aim is to aid countries in assessing their capacity to provide robust ethical oversight for health-related research. Beyond its capacity-building function, the tool also seeks to foster policy alignment and the adoption of best practices in research ethics oversight. This, in turn, will bolster public confidence in health research and ensure that the rights and safety of individuals participating in health-related research are consistently safeguarded, whether in routine circumstances or during public health crises.
