Thiruvananthapuram – In a groundbreaking advancement for pediatric rehabilitation, Genrobotics, a leading robotics company, launched India’s first robotic-assisted pediatric gait trainer, the G-Gaiter Pediatric, in Kerala on Friday. The state-of-the-art device aims to improve the quality of life for children with mobility challenges caused by conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries.
Kerala’s Health, Woman and Child Development Minister Veena George officially launched the G-Gaiter Pediatric during a ceremony, handing over the first unit. She described the innovation as a significant milestone in healthcare, marking a shift towards technology-driven solutions for rehabilitation.
“The G-Gaiter Pediatric will bring smiles to the faces of children with mobility issues and to their families,” said Minister George. “Kerala’s healthcare sector has long been rooted in community-based interventions. With innovations like this, we are now entering a new phase where technology enhances the quality of life.”
She announced the installation of the first G-Gaiter Pediatric unit at the state-run Sree Avittam Thirunal (SAT) hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, furthering the state’s commitment to inclusive healthcare.
A Revolutionary Step for Pediatric Rehabilitation
The G-Gaiter Pediatric is designed to address the needs of over 18 million children in India who face mobility challenges due to conditions like cerebral palsy. Integrated with Advanced Virtual Reality (VR) and interactive games, the device offers an engaging therapy experience for children.
Key features of the G-Gaiter Pediatric include:
- GPLOT Exoskeleton Technology: A patented system enabling children to develop natural gait patterns through precise robotic therapy.
- Intelligent Therapy Mode: Facilitates motor pattern relearning, muscle coordination, and enhanced functional mobility tailored to individual patient needs.
- Child-Friendly Design: Ensures comfort, safety, and ease of use during therapy sessions.
Vimal Govind, CEO of Genrobotics, highlighted the company’s mission to revolutionize physical medicine and rehabilitation. “Our journey began with the G-Gaiter, which transformed adult rehabilitation. With G-Gaiter Pediatric, we aim to extend these benefits to children, ensuring they can access advanced technology for a better quality of life.”
A ‘Make in India’ Success
Recognized among India’s top three GPAI startups in 2023 by the Ministry of Environment and IT, Genrobotics continues to lead innovation in healthcare technology. The G-Gaiter Pediatric is a testament to their commitment to creating solutions under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, addressing the unmet needs of those with gait disabilities.
As Kerala integrates this pioneering technology into its healthcare system, it sets a model for how innovation can empower vulnerable populations and redefine rehabilitation in India.
