At the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi, highlighted the global recognition of Indian women’s vast potential and achievements. Addressing the Ministerial Forum, Devi emphasized India’s commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women, aligning with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Devi expressed pride in representing India, stating, “Under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the women of India have established their unlimited capabilities and potential to the entire world.” She outlined India’s progress across 12 critical areas concerning women’s welfare, noting significant improvements in health, nutrition, education, and economic opportunities for women and children. The government remains dedicated to ensuring that every woman and girl has access to their rights and entitlements, placing the welfare of women and children at the core of the nation’s progress.
The session saw extensive participation from UN member states, intergovernmental organizations, the private sector, philanthropists, academia, civil society, women’s collectives, and UN agencies, underscoring the global importance of advancing women’s rights and empowerment.
