February 21, 2025 – In a significant development for women’s healthcare in India, Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav announced that a vaccine targeting cancers affecting women will be available within the next five to six months. Girls aged 9 to 16 years will be eligible for inoculation.
Speaking at a press conference, Jadhav, the Minister of State for Health, Family Welfare, and Ayush (Independent Charge), stated that research on the vaccine is nearing completion, with trials currently underway. The vaccine is designed to combat breast, oral, and cervical cancers—diseases that constitute a major public health concern in India.
The government is also ramping up efforts to improve cancer screening for women over 30 years of age. Plans are underway to establish daycare cancer centers to facilitate early detection and timely intervention. To further support cancer treatment, customs duty on cancer medicines has been waived, making treatment options more accessible and affordable for patients across the country.
With this initiative, India aims to take a proactive step toward reducing the cancer burden among women and improving overall healthcare outcomes.
