In a landmark stride toward comprehensive healthcare delivery, India has operationalized 1,78,154 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) across the nation, spanning both urban and rural areas. This initiative, reported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on August 5, 2025, underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare systems by upgrading Sub Health Centres (SHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs).
Comprehensive Services and Early Detection
Ayushman Arogya Mandirs offer an expanded range of services, focusing on preventive, promotive, rehabilitative, and curative care. The spectrum of services includes managing communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), reproductive and child healthcare, and a variety of other healthcare needs. Primary healthcare teams regularly conduct home visits to identify risk factors among populations, followed by screenings at the nearest AAMs. This approach ensures early detection of NCDs and expedites the referral process to PHCs or higher centers for specialized management.
Teleconsultation Revolutionizes Rural Health Access
AAMs have also enabled a digital transformation in healthcare delivery. As of now, a staggering 38.13 crore teleconsultations have been conducted at these centers. Teleconsultation services are available across all operational AAMs, including those situated in rural and remote regions, thereby overcoming challenges such as the shortage of service providers and physical inaccessibility. This digital bridge has brought specialist healthcare closer to the doorsteps of millions and supports seamless, continuous care.
Promoting Wellness Beyond Illness Management
In keeping with the vision of holistic health, the AAM initiative integrates wellness and preventive activities into its core operations. Activities such as yoga, cycling, and meditation are regularly conducted at these centers, with over 5.79 crore wellness sessions organized to date. These sessions aim to cultivate healthy habits, foster mental well-being, and enhance community health literacy.
The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, highlighted these milestones in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
