The second edition of the Awareness Summit on ‘Illness to Wellness’ commenced in New Delhi under the banner of the ASSOCHAM National CSR Council, a division of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). The summit brought together distinguished voices from the healthcare sector to deliberate on the transformative journey from illness to wellness.

In his address as the chief guest, Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita, also Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare, highlighted India’s strides in healthcare. “Today, India is undertaking a transformative journey, one that looks at ‘illness to wellness’ from a completely new prism,” he stated. Kalita emphasized the importance of investing in health and hygiene, citing India’s achievement of a doctor-to-population ratio surpassing WHO guidelines.

Anil Rajput, Chairperson of the ASSOCHAM National CSR Council, underscored the significance of preventive healthcare awareness in the ‘Illness to Wellness’ initiative. “We have the scientific knowledge to create a world where most diseases could be eliminated or controlled through preventive healthcare awareness,” he stated. The initiative focuses on empowerment, education, collaboration, and sustainable impact.

The summit also highlighted the ‘Illness to Wellness’ campaign’s outreach to young minds through initiatives like the inter-school drawing competition. Engaging 57 schools and 10,000 students, the competition promoted awareness of crucial topics such as health, hygiene, and air pollution.

Delivering the keynote address, Ashok Seth, Chairman of Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, emphasized the holistic nature of wellness. “Wellness is a state of mind, spirit, and body,” he said, advocating for a combination of science and spirituality to address health challenges in the 21st century.

Anil Agarwal, Medical Director of Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education Research, emphasized the importance of public awareness and early detection in combating health challenges. He stressed the need for reaching out to vulnerable groups and imparting life-saving skills to students.

The summit provided a platform for experts to discuss strategies for promoting health and wellness across communities, emphasizing the pivotal role of awareness and preventive healthcare initiatives.
