In a significant step towards fostering academic collaboration and advancing traditional medicinal practices, the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur, under the Ministry of Ayush of the Government of India, and the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine of the Ministry of Public Health of the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of an Academic Collaboration in Ayurveda and Thai Traditional Medicine.

The MoU was signed today in New Delhi, India, during the 10th India-Thailand Joint Commission Meeting held at Hyderabad House. Shri B.K. Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, and Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, Director General, Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine, Thailand, inked the agreement in the presence of esteemed dignitaries.

The primary objective of this initiative is to promote, facilitate, and develop academic collaboration in the field of Ayurveda and Thai Traditional Medicine, grounded in principles of equality and mutual benefit for both parties. The MoU will facilitate the exchange of experts for research and training programs, academic and technical activities, and the sharing of research findings, information, technologies, and best practices in Traditional Medicine.

Key areas of cooperation outlined in the MoU include:

  • Exchange of experts, instructors, practitioners, and students for research and training programs.
  • Sharing of knowledge, experiences, information, technologies, and best practices.
  • Provision of scholarships for education.
  • Participation of experts in conferences, workshops, seminars, and events.
  • Collaboration on research studies focusing on common diseases of interest.
  • Facilitation of visits and exchanges of policymakers, academics, experts, researchers, practitioners, and students.

The implementation of the MoU will be characterized by mutual cooperation and collaborative activities, with a focus on training courses, research studies, and exchanges of personnel between India and Thailand. Both parties will share information on regulatory mechanisms, best practices, guidelines, and courses of study and training. Additionally, conferences and meetings will be organized alternately in India and Thailand to review progress and evaluate the outcomes of collaborative programs.

This MoU marks a significant milestone in strengthening ties between India and Thailand in the realm of traditional medicine, paving the way for enhanced cooperation and mutual learning in the field of Ayurveda and Thai Traditional Medicine.
