New Delhi, February 13, 2024 – The Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, has once again underscored India’s prominent position in the realm of traditional medicine during the inauguration of Unani Day 2024 and the National Conference on Unani Medicine for One Earth, One Health. The event, organized by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), convened esteemed personalities from various sectors to deliberate on the significance of Unani Medicine and its role in fostering global health.

In his address, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha emphasized the importance of evidence-based scientific research in promoting traditional systems of medicine, particularly Unani Medicine. He reiterated the Indian government’s commitment to integrating and promoting these systems, emphasizing their holistic approach to healthcare. He credited Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership for facilitating advancements in healthcare infrastructure, research collaborations, educational reforms, and the global expansion of India’s traditional medicine system.

The event also paid homage to Hakim Ajmal Khan, a revered freedom fighter and pioneer of scientific research in Unani Medicine in India, as Dr. N. Zaheer Ahmed, Director General of CCRUM, highlighted his contributions.

Several milestones were marked during the event, including the release of publications and e-books by CCRUM, the unveiling of a Mobile App on Unani compound drugs, and the screening of a documentary. Notably, four CCRUM institutes were awarded NABH and NABL certificates, signifying their commitment to quality healthcare. Additionally, a significant collaboration was forged with the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Technical sessions featured discussions led by experts and luminaries from the health sciences field, addressing various aspects of the conference theme. The participation of stakeholders from industry, academia, and research organizations underscored the collaborative effort towards the development of Unani Medicine and related health sciences.

A panel discussion chaired by Prof. Asim Ali Khan, Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) at CCRUM, delved into the conference theme, “Unani Medicine for One Earth, One Health,” fostering insightful exchanges among attendees.

The event also recognized the achievements of CCRUM scientists, with appreciation certificates awarded for Best Research Papers. Titles of printed books and e-books released during the event further enriched the Unani literature and knowledge base.

India’s reaffirmation of its global leadership in traditional medicine at Unani Day 2024 highlights the nation’s commitment to holistic healthcare and collaborative efforts towards addressing global health challenges.
