Visakhapatnam witnessed a landmark development in cancer care as ICICI Bank, in partnership with Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), announced the commencement of construction for a new advanced cancer treatment block at the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCHRC). The project, funded with a commitment of over ₹550 crore, will establish one of the largest specialized cancer facilities in eastern India.

The new eight-storey building, named the ICICI Foundation Block for Child and Blood Cancer, will span nearly 3.9 lakh square feet and be equipped with cutting-edge medical technology. It aims to serve 3,000 patients annually, adding over 215 beds to the hospital’s existing capacity of 6,200 patients per year. The facility is expected to be completed by 2027, subject to necessary approvals.

Pradeep Kumar Sinha, Chairman of ICICI Bank, emphasized the project’s significance at the foundation stone-laying ceremony. “This project reflects our commitment to enabling accessible and high-quality medical care for individuals in need,” he said. “It will serve patients from Andhra Pradesh and nearby eastern states, helping address the growing need for cancer treatment, particularly for children and blood cancer patients.

The new block will offer comprehensive cancer care, including intensive chemotherapy, bone marrow transplantation, advanced radiation therapy, and cutting-edge immunotherapies such as CAR-T cell therapy. It will also feature high-end medical imaging and diagnostics, including three LINACs (Linear Accelerators), MRI, and CVT-PET scans. The facility will house 14 bone marrow transplant rooms, 14 ICUs, and five operating theatres, alongside research laboratories and joint discussion facilities for treatment planning and training.

The initiative is part of ICICI Bank’s broader ₹1,800 crore commitment to expand cancer care infrastructure across India, including new blocks in Navi Mumbai and New Chandigarh. The ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, the bank’s CSR arm, will oversee the implementation of the Visakhapatnam project.
