In a landmark move to revolutionize healthcare services, the Himachal Pradesh government has announced an investment of approximately Rs 1800 crore to upgrade outdated medical machinery in state-owned hospitals. This initiative aims to enhance medical diagnostics and treatment facilities, addressing concerns over delayed diagnoses that contribute to an estimated 30-50 per cent increase in medical costs per patient.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who has been at the forefront of this initiative, underscored the urgent need for modern medical technology to reduce economic burdens on patients and the healthcare system. Current statistics indicate that nearly 9.5 lakh residents seek medical treatment outside the state each year, leading to an annual outflow of Rs 1350 crore from Himachal Pradesh’s GDP.

The state health department has prepared a comprehensive project report detailing the integration of advanced medical technologies. The initiative includes the introduction of robotic surgery, cutting-edge radiology, and sophisticated laboratory tools in government health institutions. Additionally, the government has planned a 150-bed Cancer Care Centre in Hamirpur to provide specialized cancer treatment within the state. Efforts towards digitization of healthcare services are also in progress, aiming to streamline patient records and hospital management for more efficient service delivery.

This ambitious healthcare initiative is expected to significantly reduce dependency on external medical facilities while improving accessibility to high-quality treatment for the residents of Himachal Pradesh.
