In a significant step toward improving healthcare accessibility, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday flagged off a fleet of 12 electric scooters designed to deliver crucial medical services to patients suffering from HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tuberculosis (TB), and hepatitis. The e-scooters, provided to the Health Department by the State AIDS Control Society, will operate across eight districts, focusing on reaching underserved and remote communities.

The new initiative aims to provide doorstep delivery of medicines, screening, and counseling services. By ensuring patients receive consistent medication and support, the program seeks to achieve viral load suppression—reducing the amount of HIV in the blood to very low levels—thereby enabling patients to live healthier and longer lives.

Chief Minister Sukhu lauded the collaborative efforts of the State AIDS Control Society, Health Department, Red Ribbon Clubs, and various NGOs, highlighting their ongoing role in raising awareness about HIV and related health issues. He emphasized that the deployment of e-scooters not only advances healthcare outreach but also aligns with the state’s commitment to environmental sustainability by promoting electric vehicles.

Currently, more than 6,000 individuals are living with HIV in Himachal Pradesh, with most having achieved viral load suppression—a testament to the effectiveness of the state’s healthcare policies and sustained initiatives. The Chief Minister reiterated the collective responsibility to make Himachal Pradesh HIV-free and expressed confidence that this innovative outreach model would further strengthen ongoing efforts.
