SHIMLA, April 19, 2025 – The Himachal Pradesh government is set to significantly enhance the state’s medical capabilities with a substantial investment of Rs 193.75 crore, officials confirmed following a recent Cabinet meeting. The funds are earmarked for the construction of vital new facilities, including two critical care blocks and five district integrated public health laboratories, aimed at improving emergency response and diagnostic services across the state.
The initiative, approved during the Cabinet session, includes the establishment of two 50-bed critical care blocks located in Swahan (Bilaspur district) and Rohru (Shimla district). These state-of-the-art blocks are designed to be integrated with existing district hospitals but can also function independently during health crises like pandemics. They will house essential services such as emergency care, Intensive Care Units (ICUs), and isolation beds, strengthening the state’s capacity to handle critical medical situations.
In addition to critical care, the government approved the creation of five district integrated public health laboratories. One such lab will be established at Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College in Chamba. These facilities aim to streamline and bolster diagnostic capabilities by bringing services like clinical pathology and other essential tests under a single roof.
Furthermore, the allocated funds will also cover the procurement of necessary modern equipment for existing Mother and Child Care wings in various hospitals throughout Himachal Pradesh, ensuring better care for maternal and pediatric patients.
This comprehensive investment underscores the government’s commitment to upgrading healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that residents have access to improved emergency medical services and diagnostic facilities, thereby strengthening the overall public health system in Himachal Pradesh.
