Patna, August 4, 2025 — Healthcare services at AIIMS-Patna have been severely impacted for the third consecutive day as resident doctors persist with their strike, protesting alleged high-handedness by Sheohar MLA Chetan Anand.

The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) held a general body meeting on Sunday to discuss its next course of action. The strike, which began after a confrontation involving the MLA, his wife, and their armed guards, has left emergency, OPD, and other hospital services in disarray.

Efforts to resolve the standoff included a meeting between RDA representatives and senior hospital officials on Saturday. According to an RDA statement, hospital authorities provided assurances of full institutional legal assistance for both resident doctors and security staff who, they claim, were falsely implicated in the incident. The hospital administration also agreed to begin installing CCTV cameras in high-risk zones, such as the Trauma Centre, Emergency Department, Labour Room, and ICUs, within 72 hours—a key demand of the agitating doctors.

The RDA is also pushing for the immediate quashing of what they describe as a “false FIR” against a doctor and for sections of the Arms Act to be invoked, citing the alleged brandishing of a firearm by the MLA’s entourage inside hospital premises.

In its statement, the RDA alleged that the MLA, his wife, and armed guards forcibly entered the hospital, physically assaulted security staff, threatened doctors, and brandished a firearm, leaving one hospital guard seriously injured and doctors fearing for their safety.

MLA Chetan Anand, responding to the controversy, filed a police complaint against hospital staff, alleging mistreatment of himself and his wife during their visit to see a supporter admitted on Wednesday night. “My wife and I went to see one of my supporters admitted at AIIMS on Wednesday night. I was not allowed to enter the hospital with my security guard. This prompted my wife to intervene. At that moment, other staff members came and started misbehaving with my wife. They literally thrashed her. I had to intervene. My wife sustained injuries to her wrist and back. I was also held hostage by the staffers for some time. Finally, we went to the local police station and lodged a complaint,” he said.

Both parties have now filed FIRs, with police confirming an active investigation into the matter.

The ongoing strike continues to disrupt essential medical services as both sides await a resolution to the impasse.
