Mandsaur, India — A multi-agency team of health experts has been dispatched to Mandsaur district to investigate an outbreak of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) that has affected multiple residents of Multanpura village. The team, comprising officials from the Union Health Ministry and the World Health Organization (WHO), is on-site to assess the situation and support local health authorities.
The investigation was triggered by six confirmed cases of GBS, a rare neurological disorder where the body’s immune system attacks its peripheral nerves. This can lead to muscle weakness and, in severe cases, paralysis. Of the six patients, three have already recovered and been discharged, while the remaining two are receiving specialized treatment outside the district.
Experts from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) are also part of the investigative team, which is focused on determining the extent of the outbreak and identifying any potential environmental or health-related factors. Local health officials had previously conducted a door-to-door survey in the village after the first cases were reported several weeks ago. The emphasis of the ongoing investigation is on the importance of early diagnosis and prompt treatment, which are critical for patient recovery.
