Pune: Union Health Minister J P Nadda stated on Saturday that prior to 2017, health policies operated in silos, primarily focusing on curative aspects. Nadda said that the Union government has since introduced a more comprehensive and inclusive healthcare policy. He made these remarks during the inauguration of a nephrology and urology center at Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre.
According to Nadda, the previous health policy mainly addressed curative measures through hospitals, dispensaries, and institutes. The 2017 policy, however, marked a shift towards a holistic approach encompassing preventive, promotive, curative, palliative, rehabilitative, and geriatric aspects, covering the entire spectrum of care.
Nadda also highlighted the National Quality Assurance Standards (NWAS), noting that there are currently 30,000 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. The government aims to establish 1.75 lakh such centers to deliver comprehensive primary healthcare that is universally accessible and free, emphasizing wellness and extending services to communities. He noted that Symbiosis Arogyadham exemplifies the Ayushman Arogya Mandir, providing state-of-the-art facilities to patients at no cost.
