Gurugram, Haryana:
A gynaecologist at Saksham Health Care Hospital in Sector-83, Gurugram, has been booked for alleged medical negligence following the tragic death of a 30-year-old woman, Monika Yadav, after childbirth. The incident, which occurred on January 5, 2025, has sparked renewed debate about patient safety and accountability in private healthcare facilities.
The Incident
Monika Yadav, a resident of Manesar, was admitted to Saksham Health Care Hospital for delivery around 9 a.m. on January 5. According to her husband, Manoj Yadav, Monika had previously undergone a Caesarean section, a detail that was known to the attending gynaecologist, Dr. Parashar. Despite this, the doctor proceeded with a normal delivery, which lasted over five hours.
After delivering a healthy male child at approximately 2:20 p.m., Monika initially appeared to be stable. However, by 6:40 p.m., her condition deteriorated rapidly due to excessive postpartum bleeding. Manoj Yadav alleges that the medical staff failed to control the bleeding and did not arrange for timely blood transfusion or ambulance services. He further claims that despite repeated pleas, his wife’s worsening condition was dismissed as “normal” by the hospital staff.
Family’s Allegations
The family has accused the hospital of several lapses, including:
-
Proceeding with a normal delivery despite a clear medical history indicating the need for a C-section.
-
Failing to provide timely blood transfusion.
-
Delaying ambulance services, which hindered the possibility of transferring Monika to a higher-level care facility.
-
Attempting to mislead the family by shifting Monika to another hospital after her death.
Inquiry and Police Action
Nearly five months after the incident, an inquiry committee led by the Haryana health department found several lapses in the care provided. The committee concluded that the decision to attempt a normal delivery, lack of blood transfusion, and absence of timely ambulance service contributed to Monika’s death.
Based on the committee’s recommendations, the Gurugram police registered an FIR against the gynaecologist and hospital officials under Sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Inspector Virender Khatri, SHO of Kherki Daula police station, confirmed that an investigation is underway.
Broader Implications
This case has highlighted ongoing concerns regarding medical negligence in India. It underscores the importance of adhering to standard treatment protocols, especially in high-risk pregnancies, and the need for robust emergency response systems in private hospitals.
Hospital Response
As of the time of this report, Saksham Health Care Hospital has not issued a public statement regarding the incident or the allegations made by the family.
