Marking World Health Day on Monday, the Government of India urged citizens to embrace simple yet impactful habits such as eating nutritious food, getting adequate sleep, and engaging in regular physical activity to promote better health and well-being. This year’s theme for World Health Day, *Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures*, underscores the importance of adopting sustainable lifestyle changes for a brighter tomorrow.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare took to social media platform X to encourage small but significant steps toward healthier living. “This #WorldHealthDay, let’s commit to small healthy habits for a brighter, stronger future,” the ministry posted, alongside a short awareness video. The video emphasized key practices such as consuming more fruits and vegetables, increasing daily physical movement, reducing sedentary behavior, and prioritizing mental health through regular breaks.

“Walk, run, dance, or stretch for 30 minutes a day to stay fit,” the Ministry advised. It also stressed the need for good sleep as a vital component of overall well-being, stating, “Take a good night’s sleep to recharge your body and mind.” Additionally, the video promoted drinking more water to maintain energy levels and regulate body temperature.

The Ministry concluded its message with an appeal: “On this World Health Day, let’s promise to take care of our health every single day.”

PM Modi Warns Against Rising Obesity Trends

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also joined the call for action by highlighting the growing threat of obesity in India. In a video message shared on X, he expressed concern over a recent report predicting that by 2050, over 44 crore Indians could be affected by obesity if immediate corrective measures are not taken.

“You all know that today, our lifestyle is becoming a big threat to our health… This is scary. How big a crisis can this be?” PM Modi remarked. He urged citizens to adopt healthier habits and suggested practical steps such as reducing cooking oil usage by 10 percent—an impactful move to combat obesity.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of incorporating exercise into daily routines: “We have to make exercise a part of our daily life. If we keep ourselves fit, then it will be a big contribution to the journey of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).” He reiterated that good health is foundational to building a thriving society.

Renewed Focus on Grassroots Health Awareness

This year’s World Health Day saw renewed efforts from both the government and grassroots organizations to raise awareness about preventive healthcare and lifestyle changes. The focus remains on empowering individuals with knowledge and tools to lead healthier lives and contribute to national progress.
