Goa, India — In a remarkable demonstration of community healthcare, government-run Mega Medical Camps across Goa have screened more than 13,000 people in recent weeks, with one camp in Navelim detecting and treating five heart attack cases in a single day. The initiative, part of the state’s “Swasth Goa, Sampoorna Seva” campaign, is being hailed as a lifesaving effort by health authorities.

Timely Intervention Saves Lives

During the latest camp at Navelim, attended by over 1,100 people, doctors identified five individuals experiencing myocardial infarction (heart attack). Emergency clot-dissolving therapy was administered on-site before the patients were referred to the district hospital for further care. Just a day earlier, three similar cases were stabilized at the Margao camp.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane emphasized the importance of early detection and rapid response, stating, “Timely detection and treatment saved lives in Navelim and earlier in Margao. Our Mega Medical Camps have touched the lives of over 13,000+ Goans.”

Comprehensive Free Healthcare Services

The Mega Medical Camps offer a wide range of free medical services, including:

  • Consultations in General Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, ENT, and Dental care

  • On-site diagnostic tests such as ECGs, blood sugar and blood pressure checks

  • Cancer screenings using iBreast and Pap smear kits

  • Osteoporosis testing

  • AYUSH consultations, diabetes counseling, and wellness sessions

  • Digital health ID registration under the PMJAY-ABHA scheme

  • Free distribution of prescribed medicines

The camps have also extended services to special groups, including 15 army personnel and their families at the most recent event.

Growing Community Participation

The health camps have seen increasing turnout, with one event in Vasco attracting over 1,300 people in just five hours—up from 300 at initial camps. The initiative brings together Goa Medical College, Goa Dental College, and the Directorate of Health Services, leveraging expert teams and modern medical tools to deliver doorstep healthcare.

Minister Rane noted, “We are creating a festival of health and wellness that is changing Goa’s public health outlook and aligns with the national goal of ‘Health for All.’”

Looking Ahead

With 16 camps conducted so far, the “Swasth Goa, Sampoorna Seva” campaign continues to expand its reach, offering free, expert care to communities across the state and setting a benchmark for proactive public health initiatives in India.
