NEW DELHI – In a disappointing turn of events for aspiring medical professionals, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has released the results for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) June 2025 session, revealing a staggering failure rate. Only 18.61% of the candidates who appeared for the crucial screening test managed to qualify, highlighting the immense challenges faced by foreign-educated medical graduates seeking to practice medicine in India.

The FMGE, a mandatory licensure exam, saw 36,034 candidates take the test on July 26, 2025. According to the NBEMS results, a massive 29,327 students failed to clear the examination, representing a failure rate of over 81%. In contrast, a mere 6,707 candidates were successful. The results of five candidates were withheld pending review, and 1,168 registered candidates were absent from the exam.

The consistently low pass percentage in the FMGE has raised concerns within the medical community about the quality of foreign medical education and the rigorous standards of the Indian medical system. This result marks a sharp decline from the previous December 2024 session, which had a relatively higher pass rate of 29.62%, indicating a significant dip in success for this session’s aspirants.
