November 21, 2024 – Families of individuals who have allegedly suffered from adverse side effects of COVID-19 vaccines are calling for swift legal action and compensation from both the government and vaccine manufacturers. The families, some of whom have lost loved ones, made their voices heard at a press conference today, demanding that the government establish fast-track courts to address claims related to vaccine injuries and deaths.

During the event, which was attended by doctors, lawyers, and advocates, the families voiced their concerns over what they described as misleading public messaging and coercion by health authorities during the mass vaccination campaign. They also criticized the lack of transparency regarding vaccine side effects, calling for a more robust and transparent reporting system to identify and track adverse events.

Dr. Deepak Natarajan, a renowned interventional cardiologist, raised serious concerns over the safety and efficacy of COVID vaccines, questioning whether the benefits outweighed the risks for certain individuals. “We have seen an alarming number of cases of individuals suffering severe adverse reactions, and we must address these concerns through better monitoring and transparency,” Dr. Natarajan said.

Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan added weight to the families’ calls for accountability, highlighting the government’s failure to implement a ruling from the Supreme Court which mandated the establishment of a proper system for reporting adverse events linked to vaccinations. Bhushan pointed out that the lack of action on this front had left many affected families without recourse.

Epidemiologist Dr. Amitav Banerjee also joined the chorus of criticism, particularly focusing on the mass vaccination of younger individuals, who were deemed to be at negligible risk of severe COVID-19 infection. According to Dr. Banerjee, vaccinating this demographic without clear scientific justification was not only unfounded but also violated human rights. “The evidence supporting widespread vaccination in low-risk groups is minimal, and the harms may far outweigh the benefits,” Dr. Banerjee argued.

The families are demanding compensation for the victims, including payments from both the government and the manufacturers of the vaccines. They have voiced concerns that the current system for reporting vaccine side effects is inadequate, urging the government to overhaul the process to ensure that all potential adverse events are thoroughly investigated and addressed.

The call for justice and compensation comes at a time when many countries, including India, are facing heightened scrutiny over their vaccine policies, particularly regarding the long-term effects of COVID-19 vaccinations. Advocates for the families argue that the issue of vaccine side effects has been largely ignored in public discourse, with too much focus placed on the immediate benefits of vaccination.

As the issue continues to gain traction, it remains to be seen whether the government will heed the families’ calls and take further action to address their grievances. The families have vowed to continue their fight for justice, insisting that the government and vaccine manufacturers must take responsibility for the effects of the vaccines on public health.
