New Delhi, June 1, 2025 — The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has issued a strong statement denouncing the Central Government’s proposed “Mixopathy” policy, describing it as a “regressive” and “unscientific” move that could undermine the integrity of India’s healthcare system.
FAIMA, which represents thousands of doctors nationwide, voiced serious concerns over the policy’s aim to blend the roles of practitioners of modern medicine (MBBS doctors) with those trained in traditional systems such as Ayurveda (BAMS doctors). According to the association, this approach threatens to compromise patient safety and dilute the unique strengths and identities of both medical systems.
In a press release dated May 31, 2025, FAIMA emphasized that modern medicine is rooted in evidence-based practices and globally recognized protocols. The association warned that the proposed Mixopathy policy could lead to the creation of a cadre of “half-trained professionals,” ultimately jeopardizing the quality of care provided to patients.
Key Risks Highlighted by FAIMA:
-
Compromising patient safety and quality of care
-
Diluting the distinct identities of medical systems
-
Eroding public trust in the healthcare system
-
Undermining the credibility of both streams of medicine
FAIMA has called on the government to immediately withdraw the proposal and urged policymakers to respect the autonomy of each medical system. The association’s statement also appealed to the Ayurvedic community, framing the issue as a collective concern for the future of healthcare in India.
“Preserve the purity and heritage of both Modern Medicine and Ayurveda,” the statement urged, calling for transparent engagement with the medical fraternity before implementing any such transformative changes. FAIMA concluded by emphasizing the need for science and reason to guide healthcare policies, rather than political expediency.
