New Delhi, May 22:
In a bold step towards environmental protection, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has launched a nationwide campaign to end plastic pollution. The initiative, unveiled just ahead of World Environment Day on June 5, underscores India’s commitment to sustainability and aligns with this year’s global theme: Beat Plastic Pollution.

‘One Nation, One Mission: End Plastic Pollution’

The campaign, titled ‘One Nation, One Mission: End Plastic Pollution’, is an integral part of the government’s broader Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative. It aims to inspire citizens to adopt eco-friendly alternatives and transition from mere awareness to concrete action.

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, while launching a pre-campaign video on social media, called upon the public to embrace sustainable living. “Let’s move from awareness to action collectively by embracing sustainable living and end plastic pollution,” he stated.

Key Focus Areas

The campaign will focus on several critical areas, including:

  • Awareness and Advocacy: Educating the public about the dangers of plastic pollution.

  • Reducing Plastic Use: Encouraging the reduction of plastic waste, especially single-use plastics.

  • Plastic Waste Management: Promoting segregation, collection, disposal, and recycling of plastic waste.

  • Sustainable Alternatives: Supporting innovation and the development of eco-friendly materials to replace single-use plastics.

Community Engagement and Activities

To drive the message home, the campaign will feature a variety of activities such as:

  • Social media campaigns

  • Street plays (nukkad nataks)

  • Public pledges

  • Poster and essay competitions

  • Marathons

Additionally, large-scale clean-up drives will be organized at beaches, parks, riversides, campuses, tourist sites, railway stations, and rural areas, mobilizing communities across the nation.

Looking Ahead

With this campaign, India aims to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and encourage every citizen to play a role in ending plastic pollution. The government hopes that through sustained awareness and collective action, the country can make significant strides towards a cleaner, greener future.
