New Delhi, December 10, 2024 – In a significant achievement, the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card initiative has garnered an impressive 25 lakh enrollments in less than two months since its launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 29, 2024. This landmark health initiative under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) provides comprehensive healthcare coverage for senior citizens aged 70 years and above.
Since its launch, over 22,000 senior citizens have benefitted, with treatments worth more than ₹40 crore availed across the country. The card provides coverage for critical medical procedures such as coronary angioplasty, hip replacement, gall bladder removal, cataract surgery, prostate resection, stroke care, hemodialysis, and treatment for enteric fever, among others.
About the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card
The Ayushman Vay Vandana Card offers a health cover of ₹5 lakh annually to all senior citizens aged 70 and above, irrespective of their socio-economic status. Additionally, those already covered under AB PM-JAY receive an extra top-up of ₹5 lakh per year. Beneficiaries of government schemes such as the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), and Ayushman Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) can opt for this scheme or continue with their existing coverage.
The program also extends to individuals covered by private insurance or the Employees’ State Insurance scheme, ensuring universal access to affordable healthcare.
The card covers around 2,000 medical procedures, with no waiting period for pre-existing conditions, ensuring immediate access to essential healthcare services.
