When stepping into a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh soon, expect a quicker consultation experience, thanks to ingenious process changes proposed by mid-level medical officers. These innovations, including marked pathways and informative signboards, aim to direct patients swiftly to the appropriate OPDs.
These initiatives emerged from a collaborative training initiative between the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, Johns Hopkins University, and the State Institute of Health and Family Welfare. Approximately 30 mid-level doctors from UP engaged in a comprehensive three-phase training program, culminating in viable solutions to enhance the state’s healthcare system.
The inaugural phase immersed doctors in a six-day in-person refresher at IIML, exposing them to systemic thinking, problem-solving, quality management, conflict resolution, managerial functions, and effective communication techniques.
Prof. Nishant Uppal, Chairperson of the Management Development Program at IIML, highlighted how the training empowered participants to devise solutions addressing critical issues like reducing maternity-related fatalities.
Principal Secretary of Medical, Health & Family Welfare, Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, emphasized the necessity for CMOs and CMSs to possess leadership, management, and process-oriented skills, underscoring the value of this innovative hybrid program in meeting these needs.
