Middlesbrough, UK – Three children were hospitalised after reportedly using a vape believed to have been contaminated with illicit substances at Unity City Academy on Ormesby Road. Emergency services were called to the school at around 09:00 BST following reports that three students were feeling unwell.
The students were transported to James Cook University Hospital, where some received medical assistance. All are now in stable condition, according to Cleveland Police.
Detective Chief Inspector John Bonner confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the vapes. He praised the students for quickly alerting an adult when they began to feel ill, which allowed for prompt medical intervention.
“We are collaborating closely with the school to educate students and their parents about the risks associated with vaping,” said DCI Bonner. He emphasized that it is illegal for anyone under 18 to purchase or use vapes, and warned that those who possess or distribute illegal drugs may be committing criminal offences.
Authorities are urging anyone who suspects they have received or purchased a potentially drug-laced vape to refrain from using it and to report the matter immediately.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for vigilance among parents, educators, and young people regarding the dangers of vaping, especially with products that may be contaminated with harmful or illegal substances.
