Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, delivered the inaugural address virtually at the centenary celebrations of Andhra Medical College. He was joined by Smt. Vidadala Rajini, Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. During the event, Dr. Mandaviya also laid the foundation stone for a 50-bedded Critical Care Block in Andhra Medical College.

Congratulating Andhra Medical College on its 100th anniversary, Dr. Mandaviya praised it as the largest medical college in Andhra Pradesh, equipped with advanced facilities and renowned for producing accomplished alumni in various fields including politics, sports, administration, and medicine.

The Union Minister urged students to maintain a performance-oriented work ethic, emphasizing the aim of delivering the highest quality healthcare to patients. He stressed the importance of a balanced life and having a clear goal, which in turn guides focused and purposeful actions.

Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the government’s commitment to establishing a medical college in every district of India and bolstering the medical ecosystem by increasing undergraduate and postgraduate seats, enhancing healthcare infrastructure, and promoting medical device manufacturing. He noted the significant expansion of AIIMS institutions from 6 in 2014 to 22 presently. Additionally, he emphasized that in the past nine years, healthcare accessibility and affordability have improved for both domestic patients and medical tourists from abroad.

Dr. Mandaviya encouraged all teams to work towards elevating Andhra Medical College into a highly esteemed hospital known for delivering top-tier healthcare. He assured the Ministry’s full support in all endeavors.

In terms of background, the newly established Critical Care Unit at Andhra Medical College, funded by the Central Government at a cost of 23.75 crores under the National Health Mission, comprises 50 beds in a fifteen-thousand-square-foot space. This unit will prove crucial for critically ill patients requiring immediate life-saving interventions. It will be housed in a modern building opposite the Department of Microbiology, Andhra Medical College. Additionally, a cutting-edge laboratory, managed by the Department of Anaesthesia, Andhra Medical College & King George Hospital, will be integrated into this unit. Staffing needs will be met by the National Health Mission of the Government of India.

Key figures present at the event included Shri M T Krishna Babu, Special Chief Secretary, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh; Dr. E Ramesh Kumar, Principal Secretary, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh; Dr. K Babji, Vice Chancellor, Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences; and Dr. G Butchi Raju, Principal, Andhra Medical College & Additional Director of Medical Education.
