New Delhi, July 30, 2025 — Union Minister for Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, delivered an impassioned keynote at The Week magazine’s “Education Conclave” on Wednesday evening, urging students to become agile “learners” and embrace the dual power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human Intelligence (HI) as India strives to become a global leader in science and innovation.

Addressing a packed audience, Dr. Singh emphasized the need for young Indians to adapt quickly to the ever-evolving technological landscape, balancing cutting-edge tools with creativity, empathy, and ethical reasoning. “Technology is evolving faster than ever before, but it must not override our human values. An optimal combination of AI and HI will define the next wave of innovation,” he stated.

Dr. Singh spotlighted India’s achievements under the National AI Mission, highlighting that the nation now stands among global leaders in AI technology. He cautioned, however, against becoming overly reliant on machines and stressed the value of a hybrid approach to learning and governance that blends algorithmic efficiency with human insight.

Champions India’s Rise in Global Science

The Minister drew attention to India’s fast-growing role in international scientific collaborations—especially in fields like space, climate technology, and biotech. He noted that Indian scientists and startups, bolstered by initiatives such as BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council) and IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center), are now essential partners in global missions and innovation challenges.

“Today, we don’t just witness rocket launches—we bring 15,000 to 20,000 students to witness them live. We are building scientific temperament at scale,” he said, underscoring efforts to ignite curiosity and engagement from an early age.

Education Policy, Women-Led Startups, and Equity

Dr. Singh celebrated the transformative impact of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as it nears its five-year milestone. He applauded changes promoting subject choice, aptitude-based learning, and interdisciplinary education, enabling students to pursue paths unbound by traditional tracks.

Acknowledging the surge in women-led startups, the Minister called women leaders a defining pillar of “Viksit Bharat”—a developed India. “Women are no longer just participating—they are leading, and that leadership is reshaping India’s innovation story,” he declared.

Responding to concerns about accessibility and equity, Dr. Singh highlighted ongoing government initiatives to close the digital and scientific divide, particularly in rural and marginalized communities. He cited the inspiring journey of a young woman from Kashmir who cleared the civil services exam through self-study and digital resources, demonstrating resilience and the transformative impact of technology.

Fostering Responsible Innovation

When addressing ethical concerns around disruptive technologies, Dr. Singh reiterated that India is ensuring youth participation in policymaking and feedback mechanisms. By engaging students through platforms like the AI Mission and BIRAC, the government is striving to make innovation not just rapid, but also responsible.

Closing Message: Lifelong Learning

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Singh urged every student to cultivate an inquisitive mindset: “Each day, ask yourself—what did I learn? Degrees are temporary; curiosity is forever. Be a true learner and build a future where your mind leads your mission.”
