New Delhi: The Indian Medical Association Junior Doctors’ Network (IMA-JDN) has written to Union Health Minister J P Nadda, expressing concerns about the National Eligibility-Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2025 being conducted in double shifts.
The letter highlights that the initial reason for holding NEET PG 2024 in double shifts was due to time constraints in allocating centers and ensuring security protocols. However, the IMA-JDN argues that these constraints do not exist this year, making the decision to hold the exam in two shifts questionable.
Transparency Concerns
The IMA-JDN raised concerns regarding the normalization method used between the two shifts. Citing the previous year’s exam, where disparities between shifts were alleged, the letter emphasizes the lack of transparency in the normalization process. The letter also states that candidates are not given access to their answer keys or allowed to challenge discrepancies, which diminishes the credibility of the examination process.
Candidate Dissatisfaction
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) announced that the NEET PG 2025 exam would be held in two shifts on June 15, 2025: 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM. This decision has sparked widespread discontent among doctors, who worry about the fairness of the normalization process.
A poll by Shiksha.com indicated that 89% of respondents opposed the two-shift format, while only 9% supported it.
IMA-JDN’s Stance
Dr. Indranil Deshmukh, National Secretary of IMA JDN Standing Committee, stated, “On behalf of 2 lakhs NEET-PG aspirants, we express serious concern over the decision to conduct NEET-PG 2025 in two shifts, despite the absence of any logistical urgency this year.” He urged authorities to conduct the exam in a single shift, ensure transparency in score calculation, and expand Computer Based Test (CBT) centers to all districts.
