New Delhi, May 13, 2025 – As tensions persist along the Indo-Pak border despite a ceasefire agreement, doctors and medical aspirants across India are intensifying their calls for the postponement of the Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INICET) and the Institute of National Importance Super Speciality (INI SS) exams. The upcoming INICET exam is scheduled for May 17, 2025, while the INI SS is set for May 24, 2025.

Widespread Disruptions Spark Concern

The ongoing hostilities have triggered nationwide disturbances, including blackouts and suspension of flights, particularly affecting regions such as Srinagar. These disruptions have raised significant concerns about the safety, mental well-being, and logistical challenges faced by students who are expected to travel to exam centers amid the crisis.

Doctors’ Associations Voice Strong Opposition

Dr. Lakshya Mittal, National President of the United Doctors’ Front (UDF), has been at the forefront of the movement, expressing disappointment over the authorities’ decision to proceed with the exams. After the release of admit cards on May 10, Dr. Mittal penned a letter to the Director of AIIMS, urging a postponement of both the INICET PG and INI SS exams.

“Given the unprecedented escalation of hostilities at the Indo-Pak border and the resultant national emergency measures, candidates across multiple states are facing grave challenges that are directly affecting their ability to appear for the exam safely,” Dr. Mittal wrote.

On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Mittal questioned the AIIMS administration’s silence and criticized what he described as “autocratic decisions,” emphasizing the psychological and logistical risks for students.

Broader Appeals to Health Authorities

Other medical professionals, including Dr. Nawazish Khan, have also appealed to the Union Health Ministry to postpone the exams. Dr. Khan highlighted the stress and anxiety caused by the current situation, which he said could severely impact students’ performance.

The All India Doctors association echoed these concerns in a public post, urging the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Health Minister JP Nadda to postpone the INICET by a month and the NEET PG by two months, suggesting new dates of June 15 and August 10, respectively.

Students and Doctors Unite Online

Social media has seen a surge of posts from concerned doctors and students, all calling for the exams to be rescheduled. Dr. Shubh, another X user, pointed out that the ongoing “Operation Sindoor” and continued blackouts near the border make it unsafe for applicants to attend the exams, despite the ceasefire.

Authorities Yet to Respond

As of now, there has been no official response from AIIMS or the Union Health Ministry regarding the postponement requests. The situation remains tense, with both students and healthcare professionals anxiously awaiting a decision that could impact thousands of medical careers.
