Bathinda, Punjab:
In a remarkable display of quick thinking and medical expertise, Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh, who is also a practicing doctor, saved the life of an elderly man who collapsed during a public event in Bathinda. The incident, which took place at a “naksha mela” (site plan distribution drive) organized by the Bathinda Municipal Corporation, has garnered widespread praise across social media.

Timely Intervention

The event, attended by Dr. Ravjot Singh, Sham Chaurasi MLA, Mayor Padamjit Singh Mehta, and other civic officials, was disrupted when an elderly attendee suddenly fainted and fell on the stairs, likely due to the intense summer heat. Without hesitation, Dr. Singh rushed to the man’s aid and immediately began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

A video of the incident, now viral on social media, shows Dr. Singh performing chest compressions and elevating the patient’s legs to improve blood circulation. His swift action revived the man, who regained consciousness before being transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Social Media Applause

The official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Aam Aadmi Party Punjab (@AAPPunjab) shared the video, lauding Dr. Singh’s presence of mind and dedication to his medical oath, even while serving as a public official. The post read, “Cabinet Minister Doctor @RavjotDr16124 fulfilled his duty as a doctor. Life of elderly man saved after fainting during Bathinda tour.”

The video quickly attracted widespread admiration, with many netizens commending Dr. Singh’s calm demeanor and life-saving skills.

Minister’s Statement

Speaking to the Times of India after the incident, Dr. Singh, who holds an MD in medicine, emphasized the importance of basic medical training:

“Saving lives is always a priority. Even in public service, I carry my medical training with me. I believe every young person should be trained in basic first aid—it can make all the difference in emergencies

Importance of First Aid

This incident highlights the critical role of first aid knowledge and the impact it can have during emergencies. Experts recommend that more people, especially those in public-facing roles, receive basic training in CPR and emergency response.
