Delhi, August 16, 2024 — In a novel initiative to tackle mosquito breeding along railway tracks, the Delhi Rail Division unveiled its specialized train, the ‘Mosquito Terminator on Wheels,’ on Friday. This innovative project aims to reduce the mosquito population in the National Capital Region (NCR) by targeting breeding sites with precision.
The newly launched service features a truck-mounted power sprayer provided by the Municipal Corporation, which has been installed onto a specially designed ‘DBKM’ wagon. This sprayer disperses anti-larvae solutions as the train progresses along its route, covering areas up to 50-60 meters from the tracks. The train will travel from Rathdhana, passing through Adarsh Nagar and Badli, before making its way back to New Delhi.
Scheduled to operate until September 21, the ‘Mosquito Terminator on Wheels’ will conduct two rounds per route during the peak mosquito breeding season. The initiative is strategically designed to address the issue of mosquito larvae accumulation in burrow pits adjacent to the railway tracks, thereby enhancing public health safety for residents living near these areas.
The Delhi Division’s proactive approach in deploying this specialized train is expected to significantly decrease mosquito larvae, mitigating the risk of mosquito-borne diseases and improving overall public health conditions in the region.
By combining railway logistics with advanced pest control technology, Delhi is setting a new precedent in urban mosquito management, paving the way for other regions to adopt similar measures in their fight against mosquito-borne illnesses.
