New Delhi, July 26, 2025 — Residents of Delhi seeking medical care at government hospitals can now bid farewell to long, frustrating queues, thanks to the launch of the new Health Information Management System (HIMS). Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled the digital platform on Thursday, hailing it as a decisive leap toward transforming healthcare across the national capital.
HIMS empowers patients to book outpatient department (OPD) appointments online, receive digital OPD slips, and access their medical records in real-time. The system eliminates the need to physically wait in lines or shuffle between counters, providing a centralised, seamless experience for patients, doctors, and hospitals alike. “This is a big relief for the people of Delhi, who will no longer have to stand in long lines or run from counter to counter. Everything is going digital,” Gupta said at the launch event.
The launch ceremony at Delhi Secretariat also saw the digital inauguration of 34 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and eight Jan Aushadhi Kendras. HIMS was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and is built on the NextGen e-Hospital platform. The platform is tightly integrated with Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs, which are already held by over 9.3million Delhi residents.
Currently live in 35 government hospitals for OPD registrations, HIMS will expand across all public health institutions in Delhi in a phased rollout. Officials underscored the system’s role in connecting stakeholders and making medical care more efficient and transparent.
Chief Minister Gupta also took the opportunity to critique the preceding AAP-led government’s health initiatives, pointing to a lack of full-time medical superintendents and under-resourcing of staff in the public health sector.
