New Delhi, May 17 – In a significant step towards improving neurological healthcare, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh inaugurated the capital’s first dedicated brain health clinic at Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka on Saturday. The launch marks the beginning of a city-wide initiative to provide district-level access to specialized neurological treatment and rehabilitation, with 10 more such clinics planned across Delhi within the next year.

A Mission for Brain Health

The clinic, established under India’s Brain Health Initiative with support from NITI Aayog and technical partner IHBAS (Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences), aims to address a spectrum of neurological disorders. Services will include screening and therapy for conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, and migraine. The clinic will also offer counselling and tele-neurology services to ensure continuity of care for patients.

“This is not just a facility, it is a mission. Whenever you face a brain-related problem, come here. Don’t hide or delay treatment. Similar centres will be opened in every district,” Minister Singh emphasized at the inauguration.

Addressing a Global Health Challenge

Neurological conditions are currently the world’s second-biggest cause of death and the leading cause of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), according to official statements. The new clinic is designed to provide early intervention, lifestyle modification counselling, and caregiver support, aiming to reduce the burden of neurological diseases in the community.

Citywide Expansion and Future Plans

Delhi’s government plans to replicate the Dwarka clinic model across all 11 districts, ensuring city-wide coverage. The IHBAS will play a key role in training staff and monitoring the outcomes of these clinics. The initiative is aligned with the recommendations of NITI Aayog’s National Task Force on brain health, chaired by IHBAS Director Dr. Rajinder Kumar Dhamija.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has expressed strong support for the project, calling it a step towards building a “future-ready” health system for Delhi.

Looking Ahead

With the launch of the first brain health clinic and plans for expansion, Delhi is poised to become a leader in accessible neurological care. The initiative promises to bring advanced screening, therapy, and support services closer to residents across the city, potentially transforming outcomes for thousands of patients and their families.
