Delhi, August 21, 2024 — In a significant step towards enhancing women’s healthcare, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj inaugurated two new Mohalla Clinics in Moti Nagar today, bringing the total number of these community health centers to 545. The new clinics are part of a targeted initiative to address women’s specific healthcare needs by introducing special Mohalla Clinics exclusively staffed by female employees and doctors.
The expansion of these clinics underscores the Delhi government’s commitment to accessible and gender-sensitive healthcare. According to an official statement, the Mohalla Clinics have already provided treatment to over two crore individuals, including many who would otherwise choose private hospitals due to cost or convenience. This highlights the broad appeal and effectiveness of the government’s healthcare model.
Minister Bharadwaj emphasized the positive impact of the clinics on the community, noting their role in offering essential medical services to all segments of society, including affluent individuals who are usually inclined towards private healthcare facilities. He reassured the public that despite facing challenges and setbacks, the government’s healthcare initiatives will continue without interruption.
The inauguration comes amid widespread protests over the alleged rape and murder of a female resident in Kolkata. Bharadwaj took this opportunity to call on the central government to implement stronger laws for the safety of healthcare professionals. He stressed the importance of providing adequate salaries and protection to doctors, warning that without these safeguards, many might consider relocating abroad for better opportunities and safety.
The new Mohalla Clinics are expected to significantly enhance the accessibility of quality healthcare for women in Delhi, providing a critical service to those in need and demonstrating a proactive approach to addressing gender-specific health concerns.
