New Delhi, May 29, 2025 — In a significant move aimed at overhauling Delhi’s healthcare infrastructure, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced her government’s ambitious target to provide three hospital beds for every 1,000 residents. The announcement was made on Wednesday during a public address at the SU Block park in Pitampura, coinciding with the laying of a new footpath’s foundation stone.

Reflecting on her administration’s first 100 days, CM Gupta emphasized the urgent need to improve the capital’s healthcare facilities, citing a recent high-level health committee meeting. “I was shocked to learn that although the World Health Organisation recommends a minimum of two hospital beds per 1,000 people, Delhi had only 0.47 beds per 1,000 people — not even one bed per 1,000 citizens. This is a serious concern,” Gupta stated.

She criticized previous governments for neglecting healthcare needs, describing the current infrastructure as “dismal” and attributing the lack of progress to political conflicts and insufficient effort. “The previous governments have never tried to solve any problem in the name of conflict and this lack of effort was a loss to the people of Delhi,” she remarked.

Gupta assured residents that her government is committed to resolving long-standing public grievances and is working towards an integrated system involving the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Delhi Government, and the Central Government. “No Delhiite should remain without treatment, and no one should die due to lack of medical care,” she asserted.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the recent implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for enabling its rollout. Under the new initiative, Ayushman Yojana cards are being issued to all elderly citizens above 70 years, entitling them to medical treatment worth up to ₹10 lakh — with ₹5 lakh contributed each by the Centre and the Delhi government.

“This scheme is not there anywhere else in the world. This is the only government that gives every elderly person above 70 years of age ₹10 lakh for treatment,” Gupta claimed, expressing gratitude for the public’s support and the central government’s cooperation.

As the Delhi government prepares to present its 100-day report card on May 31, all eyes will be on the administration’s next steps toward achieving its healthcare goals.
